    • Before Laying

      Soil preparation

Create a prepared space by using a hand-truck or a tractor.

Removal of rocks and coarse material

Rocks, large chunks of earth, large tufts of grass and/or weeds must be removed from the levelled ground using rakes and shovels.

      Soil improvement

Usually not necessary. With heavy and/or non-porous soil, one should add quartz sand in order to make the ground lighter and more porous.

      Soil delivery

The lawn base layer (earth) should cover at least 15 cm. If this requires additional soil, light (sandy), rock-free, fine field soil is the best suited.

      Levelling (Flatten surface)

      • Coarse surface: use a shovel (or a mini-leveller on a large surface) to level the surface.
      • Fine surface: use a rake to adjust the surface.
    • Turf

      Delivery

Only when the soil is prepared should you arrange delivery of Pannon Turfgrass turf. As soon as it is delivered, it should be laid and arranged. The delivered turf cannot stay in its rolled state for more than one night.

      Laying

Roll out roll after roll in rows. Make sure that the turf rolls are flush up against one another and that there are no gaps or overlaps. To avoid cross-seams, begin each row a little staggered. For smaller spaces, a sharp knife or Stanley utility knife to cut curves, corners and ends. In larger spaces or when a lot of cutting work is needed, a pair of lawn shears can make work much easier.

      Rolling

After the laying works but still before the watering the lawn should be rolled with a moderately heavy roller. Smaller aereas can also be compressed with lawn shoes or planks.

      Watering

After flattening the area, the first watering should be done with a hose and sprinkler. Water very generously and exactly roll for roll so that the base soil is saturated at least 10 cm deep.

Take note: To avoid letting the turf rolls dry out on hot days, you should alternate between laying 50-80 m² of roll and flattening and watering, then proceed with the next section.

    • After installation

      Week 1

Always keep the lawn moist – water daily (except when it rains or is very overcast and cool), and don’t walk on the lawn (except with lawn shoes).

      Week 2

Only water half as much. After 7-10 days, mow for the first time (Stop watering 1-2 days before this, otherwise spoors will appear).

      Week 3

Reduce to watering in normal amounts (see Watering). After mowing a second time, fertilizer should be applied (see Fertilizing). The lawn can now be walked on and is fully functional.

    • Mowing

      • Regular mowing is the most important aspect of lawn care (at least once per week, possibly more often in spring and less in summer).
      • Ground rule: Don’t cut more than 1/3 of the entire length. If the lawn is left un-mowed for a long period, you must absolutely continue to follow this rule regardless and cut down to the normal length in stages.
      • Don’t mow too much (ideal cutting length 30-40 mm).
      • Pay attention to the sharpness of the blades and only mow when the lawn is dry.
      • Catch the clippings in a mowing bag If you use a mulch mower, you should mow more often.
      • Don’t mulch after September – otherwise you will have mushroom problems.
    • Watering

      • Depending on the weather, lawn requires about 20-30 l of water per m2 per week (easy to test with a rain measurer).
      • Spread out watering to once or at most twice per week.
      • Water in the evening or early morning hours.
      • Attention: Too much watering can also cause damage to the lawn!
      • With an automatic underground sprinkler system, you can optimize the watering of your (we recommend this).
    • Fertilizing

      Enjoy your beautiful lawn!

Healthy and beautiful lawn needs three things: regular cutting, water and above all fertilizer in order to get enough nutrition.

      • Use a long-term grass fertilizer – it will give your lawn ideal nutrition and reduce the growth of weeds and moss.
      • Fertilize normally three times per year (1x in spring, 1x early June and 1x late August) while following the directions on the fertilizer.
      • To prepare the lawn for winter, a potash-heavy fertilizer in late September is recommended (also available from Pannon Turfgrass).

We recommend the organic fertilizer MALTAFLOR which is also available in our company. After intensive tests during the last years on our cultures and also on sport fields and gardens we have found out that MALTAFLOR is an easy way to give the ideal nutrition to the grass. Beside this it also activates the growth of the roots. Find more details here:

    • Verticut/Dethatch

      • The surface growth should be removed at least once a year (late March to late April or in September). Then the lawn will have space for new growth and the chance of mushroom growth drops.
      • Only verticut when there is really surface growth.
      • Don’t verticut too deeply. The blades should only cut the surface growth, but not the earth.
      • High quality tools can be found in specialty stores (building centers and storage houses) and can be rented for a small fee.
