Before Laying
Soil preparation
Create a prepared space by using a hand-truck or a tractor.
Removal of rocks and coarse material
Rocks, large chunks of earth, large tufts of grass and/or weeds must be removed from the levelled ground using rakes and shovels.
Soil improvement
Usually not necessary. With heavy and/or non-porous soil, one should add quartz sand in order to make the ground lighter and more porous.
Soil delivery
The lawn base layer (earth) should cover at least 15 cm. If this requires additional soil, light (sandy), rock-free, fine field soil is the best suited.
Levelling (Flatten surface)
- Coarse surface: use a shovel (or a mini-leveller on a large surface) to level the surface.
- Fine surface: use a rake to adjust the surface.
